Certificate Issuance and Use Terms
Last updated: October 28, 2026
These Terms govern the issuance of certificates through the online issuance flow of States University. By starting an issuance, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the conditions below. They supplement the general Terms of Use of the platform.
1. What the certificate is
A certificate issued through the online flow is a private certificate of completion issued by States University. It documents that the certificate holder completed a non-credit continuing-education course on the subject indicated and achieved a passing result on a final assessment exam given by the platform. It can be verified online by QR code and registry number.
2. What the certificate is not
States University is not an accredited degree-granting institution. The certificate is not an academic degree or diploma, does not carry college credit, is not recognized by any education authority and does not confer a license to practice any regulated profession. It does not replace registration with a professional licensing board or association where one is required. Acceptance is at the discretion of each employer or institution.
Supplementary documents such as the Certificate of Professional Development, the International Registry Record or the International Competency Certificate are names of products offered within the same non-credit course. They are not a license, a degree or a protected professional designation.
3. Eligibility and limit per purchase
One (1) certificate may be issued per course purchase. The system enforces this limit by ID number and course: the same ID number cannot be used to issue two certificates for the same course. The certificate holder must be the person identified in the information provided; issuance in the name of another person is not permitted.
The course name entered at the start of the flow is final: once confirmed, it cannot be changed for that issuance.
4. Final assessment exam
Issuance requires a passing result on a final assessment exam: 10 multiple-choice questions on the subject of the course, with at least 7 correct answers required to pass. The exam may be retaken as many times as needed, at no additional cost. Its purpose is to document the learning the certificate holder has already completed. Any attempt to bypass the exam or its security mechanisms results in invalidation of the certificate.
5. Accuracy of information
All information provided in the flow (full name, ID number, date of birth, email address and the course purchased) must be accurate, complete and the certificate holder’s own. Acceptance of these Terms includes an express statement that the information is accurate. A false statement, use of another person’s identity or cheating on the assessment results in invalidation of the certificate, without prejudice to any other measures that may apply.
6. Invalidation and revocation
A certificate may be invalidated in the following cases: a refund or chargeback of the course purchase; a finding that the person who issued it is not a student or purchaser of the course; a false statement; cheating on the exam; or alteration of the document. The verification page then shows the invalidation.
While a certificate has not been invalidated or revoked, its registry number remains valid for verification and the record has no expiration date. The validity of the record does not depend on any further action by the certificate holder after issuance.
7. What can be corrected after issuance
Can be corrected: the certificate holder’s personal information (for example, the spelling of the name), through the issuance flow itself or in the holder portal; the certificate is reissued with the same number. Cannot be changed: the course of the certificate. For any other case, contact support@states.university (reply within 1–2 business days).
8. Code of ethics and privacy
The certificate holder agrees to comply with the Professional Code of Ethics of States University. The processing of personal information is governed by the Privacy Policy; corrections and deletions can be requested on the data deletion and correction page.
Credential visibility: a credential is private when it is issued. The public page, with the certificate holder’s name and a share link, exists only with the holder’s express consent, given in the issuance flow or later in the holder portal, and that consent can be withdrawn at any time. Retention: data from issuances that were not completed (abandoned flows) is deleted automatically after 30 days; data for issued certificates is kept for as long as the verification record exists, because that is the purpose of the service.
9. Version in effect
The version of these Terms in effect is the one published on this page (version 2026-08-10). The acceptance recorded at each issuance refers to the version in effect on the date of acceptance. The English version is the only version of these Terms.
